Smartfella Internet Services & The Salt Lake 2002 Winter Olympics

Salt Lake City, UT., March 1, 2002: "Smartfella Internet Services, Putting Their Money Where Their Mouth Is."

Throughout the 2002 Olympics, thousands of people from Utah and other regions of the World gave of their time and efforts in order to be a part of the "Team 2002" volunteer program. Among these volunteers was SFI's Founder and President, Dennis Dutson. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I wouldn't miss participating for the world, no pun intended", he stated. For the past year Mr. Dutson and his staff had been actively recruiting their customers to become volunteers.

Then SFI decided to take it just one step further and sponsor an Olympic athlete. "We are one of only a few countries in the world that does not financially support their Olympic athletes. If there is anything SFI can do for an athlete, we'll do it!", said Dutson.

SFI began a campaign to help 3-time Olympic Speed Skater, Marc Pelchat. SFI was first able to offer Marc with free Internet access so that he and his wife Kate could keep in contact with their families. Then, SFI negotiated a free membership with a national fitness center so that Marc could work out and train. Next, Mr. Dutson began to arrange several speaking appearances during the Olympics for Marc at local Schools to help offset the costs of living here while training here. "Dennis has been great in helping us out. It really means a lot to us. I really enjoyed coming out and speaking to the kids. I hope that I was able to have a positive impact on them," said Pelchat.

SFI not only encouraged it's customers to volunteer, but SFI's President put his money where his mouth is. He pulled double duty volunteering full-time as an International Client Services Attendant working with IOC and NOC officials and also as a ICS Language Specialist for the Korean Olympic Speed Skating Team. Mr. Dutson was featured in Seoul, Korea's Sports Today, one of the biggest sports newspapers in Korea. Dutson stated, "It was a great honor for me be involved with the officials and athletes from the U.S. and Korea. It was an incredible experience, one that I will never forget!"
