U.S. Representatives and Smartfella Internet Services Attack SPAM
Anti-SPAM policies and procedures have been in place and played a significant role in our services since SFI was founded. Now the United States Congress is showing their support of ISPs in dealing with the growing problem of SPAM.

Salt Lake City, UT., February 15, 2001: Smartfella Internet Services, an local and International provider of Internet services, has been a long time proponent of the distribution of SPAM (unsolicited e-mail). Advanced features have always been in place on SFI's servers to help eliminate SPAM while still maintaining the privacy of their customer's e-mail. However, in the event that SPAM was distributed through SFI servers, the offender(s) are held liable for all expenses incurred by SFI as a result of the violation. SFI prides itself on taking a stand against SPAM.

The same U.S. representatives who sponsored the legislation in the last Congress introduced a bill designed to give consumers and ISPs greater control over SPAM on Wednesday, February 14, 2001.

The bill is aimed at giving consumers the power to block unwanted e-mail and providing ISPs who bear the cost of delivering SPAM with a legal right of action to block those who dump unwanted messages onto their networks.

The bill would require accurate return addresses on unsolicited commercial e-mail, make it illegal to continue sending junk e-mail to someone who has asked to be removed from a distribution list, require unsolicited commercial e-mail to be labeled, and require ISPs to let their customers "opt out" of receiving junk e-mail if the ISP profits from allowing it into their system.

The bill would also set a penalty for continuing to send junk e-mail after someone has asked for it to stop and allow ISPs to sue spammers for $500 per message if they violate their anti-SPAM policy.

"Smartfella Internet Services has been fighting the war against SPAM for years now with the implementation of state of the art server sided software and other methods of reducing SPAM." said Dennis Dutson, SFI Founder and President. "We take it very seriously and we know that our customers enjoy better service due to the reduction of the SPAM that enters their email." SFI email servers utilize a state of the art database of known SPAM offenders and their IP addresses. Therefore, any e-mail received from any offenders in the database will never have the ability to inconvenience their customers. Additionally, if SPAM is transmitted through their network, the violator shall be held liable for any and all costs incurred by SFI as a result of the violation of their "terms and conditions".
